  • An innovative Plug and Play approach to a MaaS platform – Durgaprasada Sridhar VADLAPATLA (Alstom).

With the increasing demand for better mobility services, it is important to open Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms beyond Public transport data and enable mobility (private and public) and data providers to seamlessly integrate their services through one MaaS platform that is designed to promote the use multi-modal transport services in a city. One of the challenges from a technical standpoint is the platform’s capability to handle various services offered, diversity of data and different transport data formats which could get overly complex. This notion of complexity and huge costs for transformation often drive mobility operators away from introducing tailored services like multi-modal journey planning, charging stations, parking availability, car wash in a parking, etc. Some of the services expected from a MaaS platform are not necessarily new and are available for users in the form of open or inexpensive software packages independent of a MaaS platform. An architecture of a MaaS platform that can enable a “plug and play approach” can help integrate this suit of services and thereby enable to tailor a mobility service that suits an individual. The “plug and play approach” to the MaaS platform is not just with the mobility data providers but also with the pieces of software inside the platform that can be replaced with better ones as and when the need arises. Such an approach brings scalability, flexibility and extensibility to a MaaS platform.
